The 2015 CDM Regulations replace and supersede the previous Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 and came into force on the 6 April 2015.

The CDM Regulations aim to improve health and safety in the construction industry by requiring duty holders to:

  • plan their works so that the significant risks are controlled and managed throughout all stages of a project
  • ensure that only competent persons and organisations are engaged
  • cooperate and coordinate their work with other affected parties
  • obtain and exchange essential information about the risks and hazards and how they are being managed
  • communicate this information effectively to those who need to know
  • consult with workers about the risks and the control measures

The changes from the 2007 CDM Regulations to the 2015 CDM Regulations were significant.

The Health and Safety Executive has published formal legal guidance on the requirements of the CDM Regulations and how duty holders can comply with the requirements of CDM.
